The trackwork on Talyllyn Junction is all hand built using components from C&L Finescale and Intentio Laser Cut Sleepers. I have built all the track work inside to O-MF standards which is a gauge of 31.5mm and a check rail gap of 1.5mm. This gives a fine look to the turnouts and also a smoother transition over the pointwork, in particular the double junction at the throat of Talyllyn station, but more about that later. I will be putting up pictures of the trackwork as it is now in its 'as built' state and following it through with the point rodding/signal wires and finishing off with the ballasting.
The Double Junction Complex.
At Talyllyn Junction West there was a double junction for the diverging lines to both Merthyr and Three Cocks Junction. This double junction consisted of both a single slip and a three way turnout within its confines. The whole junction was built by me over a period of about two weeks. Built in situ with Intentio Sleepers and C&L components such as chairs and rail, I have used a Tam Valley Hex Frog Juicer to take care of the frog switching and it produces seamless running in all directions. Just Like the Real Thing tie bars have been used throughout.
Here are a couple of pictures of the main complex from either direction.
The photographs fore shorten the whole complex which is approximately 5' long from the toe to the end of the slip. Each of the turnouts at the toe of the complex are 28" long. The next aspect is to get some of the infrastructure in place such as the point rodding and signal wires.
